The “Fell Pony” examines the history of the breed from Roman times when the stamp of the pony we now know originated. The varied and hanging uses of the Fell over the centuries are examined, as well as how the breed survived the increasing mechanization of the twentieth century to take its place in the modern world as an all-round ride-and-drive pony. Its performance abilities are assessed in the light of the wide range of competitive opportunities now open to native ponies, and its unique qualities evaluated for today’s discriminating market.
